To qualify for this scholarship program, you must pass the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination. It is a highly competitive science and technology examination administered annually to incoming college freshmen who want to become DOST scholars.

Tips to Pass the Exam

The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship program is one of the most sought-after scholarships in the country because of its many perks—including tuition and other school fees, book allowance, health insurance, transportation monthly living allowance, graduation clothing allowance and more! This year alone,  84,518 graduating senior high school students took the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination but only 6,321 qualified under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, while 4,586 qualified under the Merit Scholarship Program. Well, you can now probably tell how difficult the exam is, but no worries! Here are the effective tips to pass the DOST scholarship exam:

1. Evaluate Yourself

Evaluate yourself on what topics/subjects you’re good at and otherwise. This way, you can determine your strength and weaknesses and you’ll know where to direct your focus more.

2. Seek Help from your Teachers

You can ask your Science, Math or English teachers to help you with your review. They can’t tell you exactly which questions will come out, but he/she can help you prepare for the exam. Think of them as a coach as they know their stuff. They will give you the edge over the others who simply reviewed on their own.

3. Manage your Time Well

Manage your time well during the examination. The exam has relatively difficult test items because they require you to do mental computation or critical analysis before arriving to a probable answer. Do not spend too much time on any particular item that you find difficult. Answer all the items you know first while skipping the more difficult ones. Then if you still have extra time, you may go back to the items you have previously skipped.

4. Prepare your Body and Mind

Keep your body in its tip-top shape. Eat brain-boosting foods and always have a good night sleep. The actual test is designed to be taken in one sitting and will last for approximately four and a half hours. Bring snacks and plenty of water on the examination day. Stay hydrated and do not worry about your bladder. You may also be allowed to go to the comfort room upon seeking permission from the Examiner.

  4. I have a question. I am taking bsed mathematics this year. I took the exam for sy.2023-2024 but unfortunately, I didn’t passed. And next year, I am thinking to shift my course into BS Biology. Is it fine to file a examination for next year?

  11. Why is it that the given time for us in the pacific area was only 2 and a half hours while the rest of the Philippines was following the required time of about 4 and a half hours.
