What is the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination?
The Department of Science and Technology through its Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is providing scholarships to deserving and talented young people who wish to pursue lifetime careers in Science and Technology through its undergraduate scholarship programs. To qualify for this scholarship program, you must pass the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination. It is a highly competitive science and technology examination administered annually to incoming college freshmen who want to become DOST scholars.
Thus, we created this online DOST reviewer to help the applicants prepare themselves for the November 14–15, 2026 DOST-SEI Qualifying Exam. This reviewer aims to strengthen your problem-solving confidence and help you perform at your best during the actual DOST exam. It contains sample test items to familiarize the applicants with the nature of the examination and the type of items it contains. The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination is divided into three timed parts: Creative Reasoning, Science and Mathematics. Each part measures different aspects of a student’s ability and potential for success in science and technology courses. The exam focuses on subjects and skills you’ve learned in high school, and it evaluates your academic aptitude, logical reasoning, and mental alertness through a variety of question types.

Tips to Pass the Exam
The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship program is one of the most sought-after scholarships in the country because of its many perks—including tuition and other school fees, book allowance, health insurance, transportation, monthly living allowance, graduation clothing allowance and more! In the 2026 exam alone, 97,617 students took the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination, but only 8,108 qualified, with DOST-SEI funding up to 5,100 slots under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program and 3,400 under the Merit Scholarship Program. Well, you can now probably tell how difficult the exam is, but no worries! Here are the effective tips to pass the DOST scholarship exam:

Evaluate Yourself
Evaluate yourself on what topics/subjects you’re good at and otherwise. This way, you can determine your strengths and weaknesses and you’ll know where to direct your focus more.

Seek Help from your Teachers
You can ask your Science, Math or English teachers to help you with your DOST review. They can’t tell you exactly which questions will come out, but they can help you prepare for the exam. Think of them as a coach as they know their stuff. They will give you the edge over the others who simply reviewed on their own.

Manage your Time Well
Manage your time well during the examination. The exam has relatively difficult test items because they require you to do mental computation or critical analysis before arriving at a probable answer. Do not spend too much time on any particular item that you find difficult. Answer all the items you know first while skipping the more difficult ones. Then if you still have extra time, you may go back to the items you have previously skipped.

Prepare your Body and Mind
Keep your body in its tip-top shape. Eat brain-boosting foods and always get a good night’s sleep. The actual test is designed to be taken in one sitting, with three hours of testing time plus the time it takes to read the instructions and fill out your answer sheet. Bring snacks and plenty of water on the examination day. Stay hydrated and do not worry about your bladder. You may also be allowed to go to the comfort room upon seeking permission from the Examiner.

When will the results come out?
Results for the 2027 scholarships are tentatively expected in March 2027. For comparison, the results of the February and March 2026 exam were released on May 30, 2026.
What subjects are covered in the DOST exam?
The exam has three parts. Creative Reasoning covers mechanical, spatial and verbal reasoning plus language and literature. Science covers biology, chemistry, earth science, physics and space science. Mathematics covers algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and calculus. All items are multiple choice.
How long is the DOST-SEI exam?
The exam has 180 minutes of testing time: 45 minutes for Creative Reasoning, 65 for Science and 70 for Mathematics. With the instructions and filling out the answer sheet, the whole sitting runs a little over three hours, so bring snacks and plenty of water.
What is the difference between RA 7687 and the Merit Scholarship?
Both are awarded through the same qualifying exam. The RA 7687 Scholarship Program is for qualifiers whose families meet DOST-SEI’s socioeconomic criteria, while the Merit Scholarship Program is open to qualifiers regardless of family income. For 2026, DOST-SEI funded up to 5,100 RA 7687 slots and 3,400 Merit slots.
