BFP Qualifying Exam Reviewer

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Qualifying Written Examination is the first major screening stage for aspiring Fire Officer I (FO1) applicants. It is designed to evaluate an applicant’s knowledge, reasoning ability, and readiness before advancing to the succeeding phases of the recruitment process. Since the written examination carries the highest percentage in the overall ranking, performing well can greatly improve your chances of becoming part of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Unlike many government examinations that only require a passing score, the BFP Qualifying Examination is competitive. Applicants are ranked according to their performance, and only the highest-ranking candidates proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process. Because of this, thorough preparation is just as important as meeting the minimum qualifications.

The nationwide administration of the examination is conducted by the respective BFP Regional Personnel Selection Boards with supervision and guidance from the BFP National Headquarters. Every applicant is expected to comply with the examination guidelines and schedule issued by the Bureau.

Coverage and Reviewer

The BFP Qualifying Written Examination consists of 100 multiple-choice questions covering various subjects that measure an applicant’s general knowledge, language proficiency, and numerical ability. The examination is divided into the following subject areas:

Our free online reviewers are organized according to these subject areas to help you prepare more efficiently. Each reviewer contains multiple practice questions with detailed explanations so you can understand not only the correct answer but also the reasoning behind it.

Although we strive to keep our reviewers accurate and up to date, these practice tests are intended only as study guides. They are not official BFP examination materials, and we cannot guarantee that the actual examination will contain the same questions. Applicants are still encouraged to read official references, government publications, and current events while preparing for the examination.

How the Ranking System Works

Passing the written examination alone does not automatically qualify an applicant for appointment. The BFP uses a ranking system that combines several components of the recruitment process.

For ranking purposes, the following criteria are observed:

  • Qualifying Written Examination – 40%
  • Physical Agility Test – 30%
  • Panel Interview – 30%

Because the written examination contributes 40% of the total ranking, it has the greatest impact on your final score. A high examination rating can significantly increase your overall ranking, even before taking the Physical Agility Test and Panel Interview.

Quota System

To standardize the recruitment process nationwide, the Bureau implements the “Quota × 2” policy.

For example, if a region is authorized to recruit 100 Fire Officer I personnel, only the top 200 applicants based on the written examination will be allowed to proceed to the next stage of the hiring process.

This means that even if you obtain a passing score, you may still fail to advance if your rating is not high enough compared to the other applicants in your region. For this reason, applicants should aim for the highest score possible instead of simply trying to pass.

Effective Review Tips

Preparing for the BFP Qualifying Examination requires more than memorizing facts. A well-rounded review plan will greatly improve your chances of obtaining a competitive score.

Start reviewing several weeks or even months before the examination. Focus first on strengthening your foundation in English grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and mathematics before moving on to General Information and Current Events.

Reading newspapers, following credible news websites, and reviewing recent government programs and national issues can help improve your General Information score. Likewise, regularly answering practice tests will help familiarize you with the format of multiple-choice examinations and improve your speed and accuracy.

It is also helpful to review your mistakes after every practice session. Understanding why an answer is incorrect is one of the fastest ways to improve your performance.

Before the Examination

A few days before the examination, verify your examination venue and schedule to avoid unnecessary delays. Prepare all required documents and identification cards in advance.

Get enough sleep the night before the examination and eat a proper breakfast on exam day. Arrive at the testing center early to avoid unnecessary stress and to give yourself enough time to settle before the examination begins.

During the test, read every question carefully and avoid spending too much time on a single difficult item. If necessary, skip difficult questions temporarily and return to them after answering the easier ones.

Release of Results

After the nationwide examination has been completed, the results will be consolidated by the concerned Regional Personnel Selection Boards.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will announce the official list of qualified applicants through their respective regional offices and official communication channels. Applicants are encouraged to monitor announcements from their regional BFP offices for updates regarding the next stages of the recruitment process.

Conclusion

The BFP Qualifying Written Examination is one of the most important stages in becoming a Fire Officer I because it carries the highest percentage in the overall ranking. A strong performance can significantly improve your chances of advancing to the Physical Agility Test, Panel Interview, and ultimately, appointment to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Use our free online reviewers as part of your preparation, but remember that they are intended solely for practice and review purposes. The questions are not taken from the actual BFP examination, and no reviewer can guarantee what will appear on the test. Continue studying official references, stay informed about current events, and practice consistently. With proper preparation, discipline, and determination, you can greatly increase your chances of earning a place among the country’s future firefighters.

    • Fire Officer Examination is for the required eligibility for the BFP while the BFP Qualifying Exam is the one given to BFP qualified applicants. The former is taken prior to BFP application while the latter is a part of the recruitment stage.
