This online reviewer is dedicated to all Pharmacy graduates who will take the upcoming Pharmacists Licensure Examination this August 2018. It is likewise intended for students and those who want to take up B.S. Pharmacy. The reviewer is comprised of practice tests from different online sources across the internet. It also includes the entire coverage of the exam to help you know what subjects are included in the examination. About the Pharmacy Board Exam

The Pharmacists Licensure Examination is the prerequisite test to become a licensed pharmacist in the Philippines. It is administered by the Professional Regulatory Board of Pharmacy and the Professional Regulation Commission.

The board examination is a 600-item test in a multiple choice format. It is a 2-day exam and consists of 6 modules or subjects. Examinees must obtain a grade of 75% or higher with no ratings of fifty percent (50%) in more than two (2) subjects to pass.

Examination Coverage

Like stated above, the Pharmacy Board Examination is composed of 6 modules.  These modules are comprised of 100 questions in several subjects to assess and test your knowledge. With different corresponding percentage, each module also varies in terms of difficulty. In this part, we are going to dive deeper into each module to see what they are really made of. Please read on.

Module 1: Pharmaceutical Chemistry

This one is consists of the following subjects:

  • Inorganic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry
  • Organic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry
  • Qualitative Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Module 1 is the most important module of all the six modules as it represents 20% of your final board exam score. You don’t want to fail this one because it has the highest percentage of the 6 modules.

The first crucial step you need to master in this module is the Periodic Table of Elements and the medicinal uses of these elements. Focus your review on the basic knowledge of hydrocarbons, their structures, and chemical reactions. Familiarize yourself with the different test for the quantitative/ qualitative analysis of the intrinsic and extrinsic properties of the elements. Memorize the important people/scientists, the theories, and the different laws (e.g. Charles’ Law, Boyle’s Law, Henry’s Law, and the likes).

Module 2: Pharmacognosy

This module focuses on these two subjects:

  • Plant Chemistry
  • Biochemistry

Concentrate your review about carbohydrates, homoglycan, heteroglycans, resins, lipids, alkaloids, and the different test methods. In Biochemistry, review yourself about ATP’s, amino acids, enzymes and different tests. This part represents 15% of your final score.

Module 3: Practice of Pharmacy

  • Compounding and Dispensing Pharmacy
  • Clinical and Hospital Pharmacy
  • Pharmaceutical Calculations

Here comes the calculations, adjustment of doses and infusion rate. Focus your study on laboratory tests, their ranges, and normal values. Do not forget to memorize brand names and generic names of drugs as well as medication errors, erroneous prescriptions, and the likes. By the way, this one will have a 17.5% impact on your final score.

Module 4: Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics

  • Toxicology
  • Incompatibilities and Adverse Drug Reactions

This part takes the other 15% of your overall score. To successfully pass this module, study and know by heart the Autonomic Nervous System (Parasympathetic and Sympathetic), alpha/beta (adrenoceptors), muscarinic, nicotinic (cholinergic). Do not forget to study the different drug classifications, cardiovascular drugs, diuretics, and the likes.

Module 5: Pharmaceutics

  • Manufacturing Pharmacy
  • Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms
  • Physical Pharmacy
  • Jurisprudence and Ethics

For the jurisprudence and ethics, just review the basic laws, pharmacy laws, the Special Law on Counterfeit Drugs (Republic Act No. 8203) and about the FDA. Study the different dosage forms, liquids, solids, semi-solids, and the different processes and machines. Same as module 3, this part has 17.5% impact on the final score.

Module 6:  Quality Assurance/ Quality Control

  • Microbiology and Public Health
  • Qualitative Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Drug Testing with Instrumentation

For the quality control part, focus your review on the different tests, apparatus, and machines. Ready yourself for some computations. Memorize the things about bacteria, fungi, virus, and helminths. The last module weighs 15% on the total final score.
